Identify errors
When using Excel import to create employees and payrolls in the program, errors can occur if the file being imported is incorrect or missing data.
When an Excel file with errors is imported, the program will display a list of errors to correct.
You can also view the errors under the 'Imported Batches' option by pressing View Errors.
Correcting Classic Excel Errors

Record with identifier '000000001' not found. Column 'SocialSecurityNo'
- Problem: Employee with SSN 000000001 is not created in the program.
- Solution: Create the employee profile in the program and import again.
- Note: Do not include hyphens in the social security number.

Date is out of the specified range. Column 'PayrollDate'
- Problem: The payroll date is not for the tax year being worked on.
- Solution: In the home tab, choose the correct tax year.
- Example: If the payrolls are for 2023, the year on the Home tab should be set to 2023.

Date is not valid. Column 'PayrollDate'
- Problem: The date format is incorrect.
- Solution: Change the format of the PayrollDate column to Short Date.

Excel data uploads incompletely to the program.
- Problem: blank row was left between the rows. The program will import the data before the blank row.
- Solution: Delete the blank row and import again.
Correcting QuickBooks Excel Errors

Payment item is not valid. Column 'Item'
- Problem: The accounts are not set up in the program.
- Solution: Match the accounts in the Item column of the Excel file with those in the program. Import again.

- Problem: Employee with employee number 'ABC125' is not created in the program or does not have an employee number in their profile.
- Solution: Create the employee or add their employee number to their profile in Expert Tax and import again.
