This article explains the differences between filing the W-2PR in SURI using a text file versus an Excel file, and how to handle both formats from Expert Tax.
1. Generate Text File.
- By selecting this option, you will download a text file to your computer, which you will then upload to the SURI portal.
- Later, when you have the confirmation number for the filing of your W2s, you can enter it into the program, print the forms, and prepare amendments if necessary.
2. Generate SURI Excel File.
- Unlike the text file, if you choose to download the Excel file from SURI, the program will automatically mark the forms as 'Filed' and you will need to continue the filing process through the SURI page, as well as the printing of the forms and amendments.
- If you select this option, a pop-up windows will appear asking if you wish to continue as this option cannot be undone and you'll have to continue all further process through SURI.
Note: We recommend using the text file if you want to fully utilize the features offered by the program.
